KATHMANDU: Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal Park Jae-kyung paid a courtesy call on Minister of Information and Communications Dr Bikram Timilsina at the latter’s office today.
During the meeting, they discussed Nepal-Korea relations, rescue, rehabilitation and assistance for victims of the Bhotekoshi floods, as well as cooperation in information technology, the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
Minister Timilsina expressed gratitude for Korea’s support and solidarity with Nepal during the difficult period following the Bhotekoshi floods. He thanked the Korean government for deploying a disaster response team for search and rescue operations and for its commitment to supporting flood victims and reconstruction and resettlement efforts.
Timilsina emphasized the need to further strengthen the friendly relations between Nepal and Korea based on mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.
Ambassador Park said Korea’s support for rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected areas would continue. He also expressed concern about Korean citizens affected by the floods.
According to Park, a team of Korean security personnel has rescued 10 Korean citizens who were trapped by the floods, while nine Korean citizens in the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project area remain unaccounted for.
Park also informed Minister Timilsina about Nepal’s participation, along with other countries, in the 12th Global ICT Leadership Forum, which began in South Korea on Sept. 30.
The forum, organized by South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and coordinated by the National Information Society Agency, features high-level discussions among representatives from various countries, including Nepal, on cooperation in information technology and artificial intelligence, as well as future strategies in these fields.
