KATHMANDU: The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation has reported that 677 transport workers remain unaccounted for following the Bhote Koshi floods.
The Federation disclosed the information during a meeting held on Thursday under the coordination of Rajiv Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Transport Management. It also reported that 515 trucks and containers have gone missing.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has formed a committee under the coordination of Director General Pokharel to assess the human and physical damage caused by the floods and prepare a report recommending a basis for compensation. The committee has been tasked with submitting the report, along with its recommendations, within 15 days.
The committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, the secretariat of the Infrastructure Development Minister, transport entrepreneurs and transport workers’ unions. Rajendra Bikram Baniya, president of the Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation, and Badri Prasad Chaulagai, general secretary of the Federation, are also members of the committee.
