National Junior Tennis Tournament to kick off in Pokhara today



POKHARA: The fifth edition of the Manushree–Bignajit National Junior Tennis Tournament is set to begin today (Saturday) at the Pokhara Stadium Tennis Complex in the tourist city of Pokhara.

The Kaski District Tennis Association, the organizer, said that all preparations for the tournament, which will run until April 22, have been completed.

Tournament coordinator Lok Bahadur Gurung said a total of 16 events will be contested, including singles and doubles in the boys’ and girls’ categories across the U-8, U-9, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, and U-18 age groups. According to him, 90 players from different districts across the country, including 15 from Kaski, will participate.

Acting association president Navin Chalise said players from Pokhara, Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Butwal will compete in the tournament. He added that the event would contribute significantly to the development of emerging tennis talent.

He also said the competition will help promote school-level tennis and produce skilled players, while also contributing to sports tourism in Pokhara.

The estimated cost of organizing the tournament is around Rs 300,000. Winners will receive medals, certificates, and gift hampers. The event will also contribute to improving junior player rankings, the organizers said.
