KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Ravi Lamichhane has apologized for the party’s failure to ensure representation of the Rai-Limbu community in the House of Representatives.
Speaking at the closing of a two-day orientation program on Wednesday, Lamichhane acknowledged that the party could not include members from the community this time and pledged to prioritize inclusivity in the future.
“We could not accommodate many deserving candidates despite our efforts. While we have tried to increase women’s representation, that alone is not enough,” he said. “I say with regret that the Rai-Limbu community could not be represented this time. As party chair, I apologize and commit to correcting this in the future.”
He stressed that inclusivity is a key pillar of democracy and said the party would make it a central agenda moving forward.
Lamichhane also criticized the tendency of leaders to focus development budgets only in their own constituencies, warning against regional imbalances that sideline areas such as Karnali, Madhes and Sudurpaschim.
The RSP chair urged lawmakers to remain connected with the public rather than focusing on high-profile events and foreign seminars.
“I want to see lawmakers in villages, communities and local tea gatherings—not just in big halls and international seminars,” he said, stressing that elected representatives must work closely with the people who voted for them.
He reminded lawmakers that their role is to serve, not seek personal comfort, and said they should take responsibility when citizens face difficulties.
Lamichhane also advised lawmakers to continue learning and self-improvement, stating that holding office alone does not guarantee knowledge.
He encouraged MPs to use government hospitals for treatment whenever possible, except in emergencies, as a way to build trust with the public.
“Try to seek treatment at public hospitals unless it is an emergency. This is not mandatory, but it is an effort worth making,” he said.
Stressing discipline, he warned that the party would not tolerate disorderly behavior.
“To defeat disorder, we must remain disciplined,” he added.
