RSP chair Rabi to address newly elected lawmakers today

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is set to address anorientation program for the party’s newly elected MPs today at Hotel Royal Tulip in Lalitpur.

Lamichhane and senior leader Balendra (Balen) Shah had been unable to attend the session held on Tuesday, but both are scheduled to participate in the closing ceremony later today.

The RSP, which emerged as the largest party in the House of Representatives in the March 5 elections, is conducting a two-day special training program for its newly elected MPs. Tuesday marked the first day with a 12-hour session, while today MPs are attending a seven-hour follow-up session.

Senior leader Balen Shah, viewed as a potential future prime minister, skipped the training to focus on building a team to explore how to form a majority government. The party has already begun internal preparations for government formation under Balen’s leadership, including discussions on cabinet selection, parliamentary party leadership, and possible amendments to the party constitution.

Top leaders, including Chairman Lamichhane, Deputy Chairman Dr. Swarnim Wagle, and DP Dol Prasad Aryal, have held multiple meetings on the future government, deliberating on ministerial appointments and the policy agenda post-formation.

Meanwhile, the opening session on Tuesday featured a keynote speech by Deputy Chairman Wagle, with guidance also provided by Aryal. MPs received instruction from former secretaries Suresh Adhikari and Toyanath Adhikari, while IT expert Dobhan Rai delivered a presentation on artificial intelligence and algorithms.
