Prachanda in Eastern Rukum: Feels more like a victory celebration than vote-seeking

RUKUM EAST: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal is touring villages in Eastern Rukum ahead of the upcoming elections. On Wednesday, he held interactions and meetings across several areas of Sisne Rural Municipality.

During his visit, Prachanda promised to transform the region from a base of revolution into a model district for development. At programs held in Khupichar, Khara, Bhing, Pokhara, Sisneri, and Dhape, he recalled the people’s war and emphasized that Rukum–Rolpa has long been his political stronghold.

“Eastern Rukum is not new to me. I came here 41 years ago. Rukum–Rolpa was the cradle of the people’s war under my leadership. This is where I led the revolution,” he said.

Prachanda described his current visit as a source of renewed energy and compared the interactions with locals to a victory celebration rather than standard vote-seeking. “There are grand processions and traditional music. It feels like celebrating victory, not asking for votes,” he said.

He characterized the current election as a contest of three forces: one that kills youth, one that spreads arson and destruction, and one that stands for good governance, democracy, and peace. “People will decide whether to empower the force that opposes killing, arson, and corruption—or the one that promotes violence and destruction,” he said.

Emphasizing his party’s campaign against corruption and for good governance, Prachanda expressed confidence that the public will support positive forces. He also highlighted the need for a fair and transparent election, expressing trust in the army and police. “This election is crucial for the nation. It will determine whether the country moves toward disaster or protection,” he added.
