KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has placed “building a prosperous and dignified Nepal” at the core of its vision document to be formally unveiled on March 5.
The document, prepared under the leadership of party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, outlines an ambitious goal of ensuring that no citizen remains hungry, unclothed, or uneducated. It emphasizes aligning national development with changing times by harnessing youth energy and fresh thinking.
The party clarified that the vision is not merely a five-year target but a long-term blueprint for a better Nepal, to be implemented through principles, policies, and programs. It has also pledged to learn from past achievements and shortcomings.
Guarantee of Quality Services and Nutrition for All
The vision document underscores health and education as fundamental rights. It states that the government will remain sensitive and accountable to citizens’ health from pregnancy to old age.
The Congress has pledged to free citizens from the fear of medical treatment costs and hospital bills by introducing a health insurance system comparable to that of developed countries.
The party has also committed to ensuring that no citizen is deprived of quality education due to financial constraints. By integrating nutrition with education and creating a violence- and exploitation-free environment for children, the party aims to make Nepali youth globally competitive.
Farmers as Drivers of Prosperity
Agriculture features prominently in the party’s vision, with a commitment to modernize and dignify farming as a profession. The document states that farmers will be made the primary drivers of national prosperity and progress.
The Congress has pledged to make Nepal self-reliant in healthy food production by ensuring access to technology, markets, and fair pricing. It aims to attract youth into agriculture and address shortages of irrigation, fertilizers, and insurance.
The party also promises to promote employment generation and wealth creation while ensuring inclusive growth for economically marginalized communities. It has proposed encouraging legitimate profits while curbing illegal economic practices.
Blueprint for Corruption-Free and Transparent Governance
The Congress vision stresses governance free from irregularities and harassment. It promises equality before the law, vowing to end the culture of “one law for the poor and privilege for the powerful.”
The party has committed to ending political interference in courts, constitutional bodies, and universities, and ensuring the appointment of qualified and honest individuals.
By maximizing the use of technology and advancing the “Digital Nepal” concept, the Congress says it will reduce corruption and bureaucratic delays. The party also aims to create a democratic environment where citizens can access government services from home and directly question authorities.
