KATHMANDU: Nepal has opted to bat first in their opening match against Thailand in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2026, hosted by Nepal for the first time.
At the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Thailand won the toss and chose to bowl, sending Nepal to open the innings.
This marks the first time the Nepali women’s team has reached the global qualifiers, following their performance in the Asia qualifier. Their ultimate goal is to secure a spot in the Women’s World Cup.
However, defeating Thailand will be a challenge, as they are a more experienced side and have previously competed in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Nepal is in Group B alongside Thailand, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, and Scotland. The top three teams from the group stage will advance to the Super Six round, and finishing in the top four there is essential for World Cup qualification.
