PM Shah urges solidarity with disaster-hit families, pledges rehabilitation support

KATHMANDU: With the grief of recent disasters still weighing on the nation, Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has extended his Bada Dashain greetings to Nepalis at home and abroad, calling for solidarity with affected families and reaffirming the government’s commitment to rehabilitation, economic prosperity and good governance.

In his festival message, Shah said Dashain had arrived at a time when the country was mourning the lives lost in devastating incidents in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Gorkha. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the nation.

The Prime Minister said the government had prioritised the rehabilitation of displaced people and assured that relief and recovery efforts would continue for communities affected by the disasters.

Describing Dashain as a festival of religious, social and cultural significance, Shah said it promotes unity, affection and stronger family bonds. He noted that traditions such as family reunions, receiving tika and jamara, and seeking blessings from elders help preserve Nepal’s cultural heritage and strengthen intergenerational ties.

Emphasising the festival’s moral message, Shah said Dashain symbolises the triumph of truth over falsehood and good over evil. He called on people to overcome negative tendencies in society and reflect on their own conduct.

“Socially, may demonic tendencies be defeated, and spiritually, may each of us recognise and overcome the Mahishasura and Ravana within ourselves,” he said.

The Prime Minister also drew attention to the hardships faced by Nepalis compelled to seek employment abroad because of limited economic opportunities at home. He said collective efforts were necessary to change the circumstances that prevent many migrant workers from returning to their families during major festivals.

“We are aware that a great festival like Dashain should not become a burden for anyone due to economic reasons,” Shah said.

He stressed that greater economic prosperity would allow people to celebrate the festival with greater joy and ease, reiterating the government’s commitment to steering the country towards prosperity through good governance.

Calling on citizens to uphold truth, goodwill and responsible conduct, Shah expressed hope that Dashain would bring happiness, peace, good health and prosperity to the country and its people.
