Survey officer arrested with Rs 900,000 bribe

KATHMANDU: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested Dil Bahadur Wali, chief of Team No. 3 (Machhapokhari) at the Kathmandu Survey Office, Dillibazar, with Rs 900,000 in bribe money.

The CIAA had deployed a team from its Tangal office following a complaint that Wali had been demanding a bribe by causing unnecessary delays, difficulties and harassment while processing a file related to a recommendation for registering land that had been left out of the registration process and forwarding it to the Land Administration Office in Manmaiju, Kathmandu.

The CIAA team arrested Wali on Wednesday from a restaurant at Basundhara Chowk in Tokha Municipality-5, Kathmandu, with the Rs 900,000 he had allegedly received as a bribe.

According to the CIAA, an investigation is underway into a corruption case against Wali for allegedly accepting a bribe. His detention has been extended by order of the Special Court to facilitate further investigation.
