JUMLA: Sixty-three people from Jumla district remain missing in the aftermath of the devastating floods along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors on August 26.
According to Chief District Officer Tej Prakash Prasai, 93 people from the district were initially reported missing. Of them, 30 have since made contact, while the remaining 63 are still unaccounted for.
Forty-nine of those still missing are from Patarasi Rural Municipality alone. Local resident Bhakta Budha said the people went missing from Hankubensi in Rasuwa.
The rural municipality has provided initial relief to the families of those missing. Rural Municipality Chairperson Purna Singh Bohora said Rs 41,000 has been provided to each family.
Of the amount, Rs 30,000 was provided as immediate relief, while an additional Rs 11,000 was contributed by donors. Food supplies have also been distributed to the affected families, according to Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Janmaya Rokaya.
The rural municipality said Rs 577,000 was collected in a relief fund under the leadership of local resident Jangabir Bohora. Including Rs 1.477 million allocated by the rural municipality, a total of Rs 2.054 million is currently available for relief efforts.
