Heavy rain, thunderstorms expected today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to affect the entire country, with the Weather Forecasting Division forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in several parts of Nepal today.

The Division has stated that the monsoon low-pressure trough is currently positioned south of its average location.

According to the Division, the weather is currently generally cloudy in Madhesh Province, as well as in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Partly cloudy conditions prevail in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in the Terai areas of Lumbini Province.

The weather is mainly clear in the Terai areas of Sudurpaschim Province. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Gandaki, Bagmati and Koshi provinces.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in some places in the Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few places in the Himalayan areas of Karnali Province. Similar rainfall is likely at some places in the hilly areas of the country.

Heavy rainfall is possible in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi Province, at one or two places in the Terai areas of Bagmati Province, and in the hilly areas of Gandaki Province.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at a few places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is also likely at some places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, at a few places in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province, and at one or two places in the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Division has further forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at some places in the Terai areas of Madhesh and Koshi provinces, and at a few places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
