KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has been conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army.
President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank on General Seth during a special ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.
Nepal and India have maintained a longstanding tradition of conferring the honorary rank of General on each other’s army chiefs since 1950.
Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel and other senior Nepali Army officials attended the ceremony. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava was also present.
General Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon for a three-day official visit to Nepal. During his visit, General Seth handed over military and medical supplies to the Nepali Army at a ceremony held at the Army Headquarters. He is visiting Nepal at the invitation of General Sigdel.
Earlier, General Seth planted trees on the premises of the Nepali Army Headquarters as part of his official engagements. Before that, he paid a courtesy call on General Sigdel at the Army Headquarters and laid a wreath at the Military Pavilion in Tundikhel. He was also accorded a guard of honour at the Army Headquarters.
