DHM warns of moderate flash flood risk in rivers across several districts



KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has warned of a possible rise in water levels and moderate flash flood risks in several small rivers across the country today.

In view of the forecast, the department has urged people living in riverbank settlements and low-lying areas to remain alert, particularly during the evening.

According to the DHM, water levels at the Kirin River and the Bardiya Hydrometric Station have crossed the alert level and are continuing to rise. It has advised residents in low-lying areas and settlements near rivers to exercise heightened caution.

The department has forecast a possibility of flash floods in small rivers in Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavrepalanchok, Gorkha, Tanahu, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rukum East, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Dolpa, Mugu, Surkhet, Banke, Bardiya, Darchula, Baitadi, Bajhang, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali and Kanchanpur, as well as surrounding areas.

“Water levels in these rivers may rise significantly, and there is a possibility of moderate flash flood risk,” the department said in a statement.
