Nine road sections blocked amid incessant rainfall

KATHMANDU: Nine road sections in various parts of the country have been completely blocked due to landslides, road subsidence and river erosion triggered by incessant monsoon rainfall, according to Nepal Police.

Nepal Police said vehicular movement along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi-Sindhuli section of the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli districts, has been suspended from 6 pm to 4 am due to the risk of flooding. Vehicles are allowed to operate along the section from 4 am to 6 pm.

Similarly, traffic movement along the Kanti Lokpath in Makawanpur has been restricted from 5 pm to 5 am.

The Mechi Highway in Ilam has been blocked after the road became muddy at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 following rainfall. Police said an alternative route is available for commuters using the affected section.

The Araniko Highway has also been completely obstructed at Iku in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchok, after a landslide brought rocks, soil and debris onto the road. Another section of the highway at Liping in the same rural municipality has subsided, resulting in a complete halt to traffic.

In Rasuwa, the Trishuli River has eroded the road beneath the Pasang Lhamu Highway at Khalte in Uttar Gaya Rural Municipality-5. As a result, traffic along the Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubehi road section has been disrupted.

According to police, the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West, the Besisahar-Manang road in Lamjung, the Beni-Jomsom road in Myagdi and the Khandbari-Kimathanka section of the Koshi Highway in Sankhuwasabha have also been blocked by rain-triggered landslides or road subsidence.

Nepal Police has urged passengers to check road conditions before beginning their journeys and take necessary precautions. Police have warned that the risks of landslides, road subsidence and river erosion remain high in hilly and mountainous areas due to continued rainfall.
