Cyclist dies after being hit by tipper truck in Jhapa



SURUNGA: A cyclist has died after being hit by a tipper truck in Gauradaha Municipality of Jhapa.

According to Police Inspector Santosh Rai of the District Traffic Police Office, the accident occurred last night in front of the Nawadurga petrol pump along the Padajungi-Gaurigunj inner road section in Gauradaha-1.

The tipper truck (Province 1-01-001 K 1188), which was heading towards the petrol pump from Dipu Chowk, hit cyclist Prem Prasad Guragain, 61, of Gauradaha-4, police said.

Guragain, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, was rushed to Damak Hospital for treatment, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police have taken the tipper driver, Umesh Tajpuriya, 35, of Gauradaha-1, into custody for investigation, according to the District Traffic Police Office.
