Today marks 33rd Madan–Ashrit Memorial Day



KATHMANDU: Today marks the 33rd memorial day of Madan Kumar Bhandari, former General Secretary of the CPN-UML, and Jeevraj Ashrit, then head of the party’s Organization Department.

The CPN-UML is observing the occasion with various programmes across the country, including memorial meetings and seminars. Major events are being held at Madannagar, Balkhu, and the Madan Bhandari Memorial Foundation in Gothatar, where discussions will focus on the contributions of Bhandari and Ashrit.

The commemorative activities also include tree plantation programmes, blood donation drives, health camps, and distribution of fruits to patients in hospitals.

Bhandari and Ashrit died in a road accident at Dasdhunga in Chitwan on Jestha 3, 2050 BS.

Bhandari is widely remembered as a key figure in Nepal’s multi-party democratic movement emerging from a communist background.
