Iran reopens Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN: Iran has announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping, with the foreign minister stating that the key waterway is “completely open” for vessels during the ongoing ceasefire period.

The move comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and shifting diplomatic signals in the region.

In response, former US President Donald Trump posted “THANK YOU!” on Truth Social, before reiterating that the United States’ naval blockade of Iranian ports will remain in place until a formal peace agreement is reached.

Following Iran’s announcement, global oil prices declined, reflecting market relief over eased immediate risks to one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.

Meanwhile, earlier developments saw a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon come into effect, marked by celebrations and fireworks in Beirut.

However, the truce remains fragile, with more than 2,000 reported deaths in Lebanon during the six-week conflict and significant civilian displacement. Israel has reported casualties among both civilians and soldiers. Analysts continue to warn that despite the ceasefire, the situation remains highly unstable.
