KATHMANDU: Ojashwi Sherchan of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has been elected chairperson of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives.
Sherchan secured victory in the election held today, defeating Gurup Prasad Baral of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist).
Despite receiving support from the Nepali Congress and the Nepali Communist Party, Baral failed to garner the required votes, leading to his defeat.
The committee meeting was chaired by senior-most member Mahabir Pun.
