EC to distribute PR lawmakers’ certificates tomorrow



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is set to distribute certificates to candidates elected under the proportional representation (PR) system on Wednesday.

According to Krishna Bahadur Raut, election officer for the proportional representation system, the certificates will be distributed at the commission’s premises at 11:30 am on March 18.

The Commission has already announced the election of candidates selected and submitted by political parties after publishing their details. It has requested members of the House of Representatives elected under the proportional representation system to bring their original citizenship certificate or national identity card, along with two passport-sized photographs, today.

In the election of members of the House of Representatives held on March 5, six political parties received recognition as national parties. Under the proportional representation system, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) secured 57 seats, the Nepali Congress 20, the CPN-UML 16, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) nine, the Shram Sanskriti Party four, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party four.

In the 275-member House of Representatives, 165 members are elected through the direct election system and 110 through the proportional representation system. The election process will be completed after the Election Commission distributes certificates to the candidates elected under the proportional representation system.
