KATHMANDU: Nepal, placed in Group ‘C’ of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will take on Scotland national cricket team in their final group-stage match today.
The match between Nepal and Scotland is scheduled for 7:15 pm (Nepali time) on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India.
Nepal have remained winless after three matches in Group ‘C’, while Scotland have secured two points. From the group, Scotland national cricket team and England cricket team have already advanced to the Super Eight stage. Italy and Scotland have two points each, while Nepal are yet to open their account. Having already been eliminated from the tournament, Nepal will be looking to register a consolation victory in their final outing.
Nepal’s campaign so far
In their opening match, Nepal narrowly missed a historic win against England. Chasing a target of 185 runs, Nepal fell short by just four runs, scoring 180 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.
In the second match, Nepal suffered a heavy 10-wicket defeat to Italy national cricket team. Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal posted 123 runs, which Italy chased down without losing a wicket.
Nepal’s third match ended in a nine-wicket defeat against the West Indies cricket team. After being sent in to bat, Nepal managed 133 runs. West Indies comfortably chased the 134-run target in 15.2 overs, losing just one wicket.
Nepal’s World Cup journey
Nepal first qualified for the T20 World Cup in 2014, hosted by Bangladesh. It took a decade for Nepal to return to the tournament for a second appearance. In the 2024 edition, Nepal drew global attention with competitive performances against South Africa and Bangladesh, including a narrow one-run defeat to South Africa.
Despite participating in three editions, Nepal have yet to progress beyond the group stage. The team is playing the current tournament under the captaincy of Rohit Paudel, marking his second consecutive World Cup as captain. Fast bowler Sompal Kami has become the only Nepali player to feature in three T20 World Cups.
Nepal began their 2026 campaign against England in Group ‘C’, which also features two-time champions West Indies and England along with Scotland and Italy. With West Indies and England both securing six points, they have advanced to the Super Eight stage, while Italy, Scotland and Nepal have been eliminated.
Nepal’s squad for the tournament includes Rohit Paudel (captain), Dipendra Singh Airee (vice-captain), Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Sandeep Jora, Aarif Sheikh, Basir Ahmad, Gulshan Jha, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sher Malla and Lokesh Bam.
