Four arrested for defrauding Rs 6.53 million with false promises of foreign employment



KATHMANDU: Police from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested four individuals on charges of defrauding victims of Rs 6.53 million by promising to send them abroad for employment.

According to office spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki, those arrested include 51-year-old Dharma Prasad Rai of Arjundhara Municipality-6, Jhapa; 35-year-old Nima Dolma Lama of Tarkeshwar Municipality-7, Kathmandu; 42-year-old Govinda Prasad Niraula of Arjundhara-5, Jhapa; and 43-year-old Suraj Bahadur Shrestha of Gandaki Rural Municipality-1, Gorkha.

Police said Rai allegedly collected Rs 585,000 promising to send a victim to Austria, Lama took Rs 500,000 with assurances of employment in the United Kingdom, Niraula collected Rs 2.3 million claiming to arrange jobs in Turkey, and Shrestha allegedly took Rs 750,000 promising employment in Romania. The accused reportedly lost contact with the victims after receiving the money and failed to send them abroad.

The arrested individuals have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and necessary legal action, police said.
