Two firms fined for violating consumer protection laws



KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has imposed cash penalties on two firms during its regular market monitoring drive.

Ghimire Store, located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-15, was fined for violating consumer protection regulations. Likewise, New Max Store in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, was fined Rs 5,000 under Section 38 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075.

The Department has also directed Himalayan Dairy Production and USA Dairy to appear before the office with relevant business documents for further investigation. In addition, corrective instructions have been issued to nine other firms.

The Department has been conducting regular market inspections in coordination with the local administration, consumer rights activists, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with prevailing laws.
