Sujata Koirala congratulates Gagan Thapa, says change has come within Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala has extended congratulations and best wishes to Gagan Thapa, who was elected party president through the special general convention.

In a video message shared on social media platform Facebook on Saturday, Koirala said the Nepali Congress has not split, but has instead embraced change in line with public aspiration.

“Youth, Nepali society, and the people want change today. This change should be accepted with happiness and embraced with a smile,” she said. “Change has come within the Nepali Congress. The party has not split. A new president has been elected, and I want to congratulate him.”

She urged the new leadership to move forward without forgetting BP Koirala’s ideology and Girija Prasad Koirala’s organizational legacy, saying that doing so would strengthen the party and contribute to national progress.

“If the party moves ahead by upholding BP’s ideas and Girija Bau’s organizational strength, the Nepali Congress will improve and the entire country will benefit,” she said, adding that such a course would earn the trust of both party members and the general public.

Koirala also called on party leaders to accept change positively and refrain from excessive legal interpretation, emphasizing the need to respect the popular mandate within the party.
