KATHMANDU: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Wednesday.
During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, Prime Minister Shah thanked Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi for their goodwill, solidarity, sympathy and condolences toward flood victims in Rasuwa.
He also expressed gratitude for the relief materials and grant assistance provided by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Describing Japan as an important development partner of Nepal, Shah expressed hope for Japan’s support in post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation.
On the occasion, Ambassador Toru expressed Japan’s commitment to supporting Nepal in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of areas affected by disasters.
He also highlighted Nepal’s high vulnerability to floods and other disasters and stressed the need for further scientific studies and research into their causes and impacts.
Ambassador Toru also discussed various aspects of Nepal-Japan relations, as well as cooperation in areas including infrastructure development, technology transfer and education sector improvement. Japan has long been a development partner of Nepal.
