Drinking water taps reach every household in Baglung’s Arbaudi

BAGLUNG: The long-standing drinking water shortage in Arbaudi village of Baglung has been resolved after a drinking water project brought tap water to all 36 households in the settlement.

The taps have been installed under the ‘One House, One Tap’ programme in Arbaudi, a settlement in the tourist village of Bhakunde, Baglung Municipality-10. The project was completed at a total cost of Rs 6.826 million, according to Baglung Municipality Deputy Mayor Raju Khadka.

Of the total project cost, Rs 5.85 million was provided by the Gorkha Welfare Trust, while local consumers contributed Rs 976,000.

The completion of the project has brought relief to residents of the village, which is regarded as the first residential village in the district and is also considered significant from a tourism perspective.

Deputy Mayor Khadka said the municipality has deposited Rs 200,000 into the project’s maintenance fund, while local consumers have contributed an additional Rs 83,000 to ensure the sustainability of the water supply system.

Leela Pun Sherchan, a representative of the Gorkha Welfare Trust, said the project has addressed a long-standing problem in the picturesque village, which has considerable potential for tourism development.

Local resident Chandramati Thapa said access to tap water at home has made daily life considerably easier. She said the project has ensured a reliable supply of clean drinking water during both the dry winter and rainy seasons, allowing residents to consume the water directly.

The project includes three water intakes, one collection chamber, one delivery tank, one pump house, one reserve tank, four Judson chambers, and five barbed-wire fences. A total of 2,585 metres of pipeline has also been laid, according to the Consumer and Sanitation Committee.

The completion of the project is expected not only to ease the daily burden of fetching water for local residents but also to strengthen basic infrastructure in Arbaudi and support the village’s tourism potential.
