Darbang–Muna–Dhorpatan road: Blacktopping begins in Takam

MYAGDI: Blacktopping has started in Takam of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality–7 under the Darbang–Muna–Dhorpatan Road Project.

The work has begun for the first time in Takam as part of the Dharapani–Takam–Shiwang–Jhindada road upgrade project. According to Mahendra Baniya, Chief Senior Divisional Engineer at the Infrastructure Development Office, Myagdi, a layer of prime coat (bitumen) has been applied on a single lane since Wednesday using premix technology.

He said that once the prime coat on the gravel surface dries, a second layer of bitumen will be applied, followed by a final layer where aggregates are mixed with bitumen and laid on the road. “The six-kilometer road upgrade project is nearing completion,” he added. The office stated that about 900 meters of the road is being blacktopped in two lanes under this phase.

Baniya said that around 84 percent physical progress has been achieved in the project covering the Dharapani to Jhindada section of the Beni–Darbang–Dharapani–Takam–Muna–Jaljala–Dhorpatan road. The road is considered an alternative route to the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway and holds strategic importance.

So far, structural works, base and sub-base layers have been completed, slopes have been stabilized in difficult sections such as Gauthali Bhir, and the road has been widened to eight meters with the construction of drainage systems and retaining walls.

Ward Chairperson Ashok Khatri of Dhaulagiri–7 said locals are enthusiastic following the start of blacktopping. The construction company aims to complete the work within the current fiscal year. Previously, the road was only four to five meters wide.
