Department finds 6,377 gas cylinders stored to create artificial shortage



KATHMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has found 6,377 gas cylinders stored at the warehouse of Shreeram Gas Industry in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur.

The department said the cylinders, each weighing 14.2 kilograms, were being stored with the intent to create an artificial shortage.

The industry has been fined Rs 300,000, and the department has directed it to coordinate with Nepal Oil Corporation to ensure proper sales and distribution of the cylinders.

Authorities urged industries to avoid creating artificial shortages that could disrupt supply, especially amid high demand. The Nepal Oil Corporation noted that consumers are hoarding gas due to fears of supply disruptions caused by tensions in West Asia, which has affected smooth distribution.
