RSP lawmaker Sagar Dhakal criticizes PM’s aide appointment as NTNC chair

KATHMANDU: Newly elected lawmaker Sagar Dhakal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s private secretary Adarsh Kumar Shrestha as chairperson of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC).

Addressing Prime Minister Karki through a social media post, Dhakal described the decision as an example of nepotism and favoritism.

While acknowledging the prime minister’s role in leading the country, Dhakal urged him to correct what he called a mistake.

“Without any expertise or experience, is it appropriate to entrust a responsible institution like the National Trust for Nature Conservation merely on the basis of being the prime minister’s private secretary?” Dhakal questioned.

He warned that such a decision could set a precedent that may complicate governance for future leadership.

“Even if future prime ministers promise to transform the country by appointing experts, it will be difficult due to precedents like this,” Dhakal wrote. “For the next five years, this decision could become an obstacle for leaders like Balen, Rabi and for us as well.”

Emphasizing the need to end nepotism and favoritism in politics, Dhakal called on the prime minister to show magnanimity by revising the decision. He stressed that appointments to key institutions should be based solely on expertise and merit.
