Over 6,700 tourists arrive via eastern border in eight months



JHAPA: A total of 6,791 tourists from third countries entered Nepal through Kakarbhitta, the eastern border checkpoint, during the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

According to Tulsi Bhattarai, chief of the Immigration Office in Kakarbhitta, tourists from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Bhutan entered Nepal through the checkpoint between mid-July and mid-February of the fiscal year 2025/26.

Bhattarai said that 284 tourists arrived in July, 219 in August, 541 in September, 624 in October, 873 in November, 1,850 in December, 1,395 in January and 1,005 in February.

During the same period, 3,133 Nepali citizens who had gone abroad for studies or other work returned to Nepal through the same border point.

Similarly, 6,552 tourists completed immigration procedures and departed abroad from the Kakarbhitta checkpoint, while 1,847 Nepalis also left the country through the same border.

In the previous fiscal year 2024/25, a total of 8,723 tourists from third countries had entered Nepal through the Kakarbhitta border point.
