Nepal donates $300,000 to Myanmar for Mahamuni Pagoda reconstruction

KATHMANDU: Nepal has provided a donation of 300 thousand US dollars to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for the reconstruction of the Stone Inscription House at Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay.

The donation was handed over by Harishchandra Ghimire to U Than during a ceremony held on February 14 at the premises of Mahamuni Pagoda, according to a press release from the Nepali Embassy in Yangon.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Ghimire highlighted the long-standing support between Nepal and Myanmar during challenging times. He said the donation aims to assist in the reconstruction of the pagoda’s Stone Inscription House, which was damaged in the devastating earthquake of March 2025.

Expressing appreciation for Nepal’s support, U Kyaw San thanked the government of Nepal for its contribution.

In a separate ceremony in Gangaghat, Mandalay, Ambassador Ghimire also handed over 50,000 US dollars to Pawan Bajoria for the temple’s activities.

Both events were attended by members of the local Nepali community, including Sagar Ghimire.
