Ballot printing for House of Representatives polls in final stage

KATHMANDU: The printing of ballot papers for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 has reached its final stage.

According to Janak Education Materials Centre Limited, the remaining 500,000 ballot papers will be printed by the end of the day.

Executive Managing Director Yadunath Paudel said that printing for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) category is nearing completion. Of the total 20.3 million ballot papers required under the direct system, only 500,000 remain to be printed, which will be completed today.

“We had started ballot printing with a 42-day schedule. The work will be completed in 40 days,” Paudel said.

He added that once printing is completed today, packaging of all ballot papers will be finalized by tomorrow, after which the remaining consignments will be transported to the districts.

Paudel said the center has been printing between 1.3 million to 1.5 million ballot papers daily, enabling it to finish ahead of schedule. He also informed that 1 million sample ballot papers have already been printed and dispatched by the Election Commission to various locations.

Similarly, 20.83 million ballot papers under the proportional representation (PR) system have been printed and packaged, and distribution to districts is underway.

According to the center, ballot papers have already been delivered to Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, while distribution to other regions is expected to be completed by February 24.
