Film ‘Pahad’ set for New Year release

KATHMANDU: The film ‘Pahad’, directed by veteran filmmaker Tulsi Ghimire, is scheduled to be released on 1 Baisakh 2083 (Nepali New Year). Director Ghimire said the release date was finalized after consultations with distributors and exhibitors.

The film portrays the social and economic consequences of youth migration abroad, focusing on mountain regions left deserted as young people leave in search of opportunities. Ghimire said the story reflects the realities of depopulated highland settlements and highlights questions of national responsibility and identity.

“The film presents the story of a mountain emptied of human habitation and speaks to our responsibilities and the country’s needs. Audiences will see their own identity and experiences reflected in it,” he said, adding that he is enthusiastic about working with both new and veteran artists.

Ghimire, who previously collaborated with Madan Krishna Shrestha in ‘Balidan’ and with late actor Sunil Thapa in ‘Chino’, expressed confidence that the blend of experienced and emerging talent would yield strong results. He added that the film aims to present the harsh realities of society through cinema.

Produced by Ojaswi KC, ‘Pahad’ features cinematography by renowned director of photography Pramod Pradhan. The cast includes Bipin Karki, Sunil Thapa, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Renunath Yogi, Arun Chhetri, Rabindra Singh Baniyan, Salona Bajracharya, among others.

The film also introduces Panchami Ghimire, the director’s younger daughter, as an actress. His elder daughter, Bhawana Ghimire, serves as the production designer. The film’s music has been composed by Ranjit Gajmer.
