JANAKPURDHAM: As many as 365 households that have been living in Ward No. 5 of Hansapur Municipality for years without official land documents have received landownership certificates.
The District Survey Office had completed land mapping in the area 11 years ago, but the settlers had been awaiting official documents to establish their ownership. The certificates were distributed on Monday.
Umesh Kumar, chief of the District Survey Office in Dhanusha, said issues related to land ownership and occupation had been resolved and the certificates distributed accordingly.
“With official documents verifying their landownership, the households can now use their land as collateral to obtain loans from banks and financial institutions,” he said. He added that the formalization of land ownership would also contribute to revenue generation and economic activity.
Other local governments in the district are also preparing to distribute landownership certificates in areas with unregistered settlements.
