KATHMANDU: The Health Insurance Board has launched an online system through which people can enroll in the health insurance programme and renew their policies.
The new system allows people to complete new enrollment, policy renewal and updating of personal information (KYC) online.
According to Dr Pawan Kumar Shah, spokesperson for the Health Insurance Board, people previously had to enroll in the programme through registration assistants. The service launched on Friday now allows applicants to complete the process online themselves.
“We have already introduced a system through which people can fill out the enrollment form themselves online,” he said. “From now on, enrollment, renewal and other related services can be completed without the assistance of a registration facilitator.”
Shah said online enrollment and renewal have been introduced under the Procedure for Health Insurance Enrollment and Policy Renewal through Electronic Means, 2083. Payments can be made through eSewa, Khalti and ConnectIPS.
Under the system, individuals can enroll themselves or their families in the health insurance programme and renew policies digitally, either independently or through registration assistants.
According to Shah, 5,970,403 people are currently enrolled in the health insurance programme.
Under the programme, a family of up to five members can receive health services worth up to Rs 100,000 upon payment of an annual contribution of Rs 3,500.
The contribution increases by Rs 700 for each additional family member, while the coverage increases by Rs 20,000 per additional member.
The Health Insurance Board also provides an additional coverage of up to Rs 100,000 for eight types of critical illnesses.
