KATHMANDU: Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has stressed the need to make responsible and positive use of the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology revolution.
Speaking at a programme organised by Maharshi School in Kathmandu on Saturday, Minister Shrestha said the world is changing rapidly with technological advancement and that people need to develop the ability to adapt to the changing circumstances.
He said AI and information technology are bringing major changes to education, employment, creativity and everyday life, stressing that technology should be used to develop knowledge, skills and positive thinking.
Minister Shrestha also expressed concern over the increasing mental health problems among young people, particularly those aged between 16 and 27.
He said an environment for open dialogue with young people should be created while encouraging them to participate in creative and constructive activities to address such challenges.
According to Shrestha, cooperation among families, schools and state agencies is essential for the mental well-being and overall development of young people.
Recalling that he had prioritised youth-focused programmes when he served as the youth minister, Shrestha said the capabilities, skills and creativity of young people should be channelled towards nation-building.
He further said the education system and broader social environment have an important role to play in making young people technology-friendly, creative and responsible in a rapidly changing world.
