Landslides and floods disrupt traffic on several roads



KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has disrupted vehicular movement on several roads across the country, with floods and landslides blocking highways and road sections in various districts.

According to Nepal Police Headquarters, several roads were affected by floods and landslides as of 6:30 am today.

Due to the risk of flooding, authorities have restricted all vehicular movement along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli. Vehicles are allowed to operate on the section from 4:00 am to 6:00 pm, while movement is prohibited from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am.

Similarly, vehicular movement on another road section has been restricted from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am due to rainfall.

The Mechi Highway has been completely blocked by mudslides at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9, although an alternative route is available, according to police.

The Araniko Highway has also been completely blocked by a landslide at Charkilo-Liping in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4, Sindhupalchok.

In Rasuwa, the unpaved Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi road section has been completely blocked by a landslide at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5.

Likewise, the Jajarkot-Dolpa road along the Bheri Corridor in Aathbiskot Municipality-6, Rukum West, has been completely blocked by a landslide.

The Mid-Hill Highway has also been blocked by landslides at Kadabagar in Bhume Rural Municipality-4, Rukum East, and at Dhaulapahira in the same municipality.

Likewise, the Ghorahi-Thawang Shahid Marg has been blocked at two locations, Laplebhir and Dabang, in Thawang Rural Municipality-2, Rolpa, due to landslides.

Police said coordination is underway with concerned government agencies and local authorities to clear the blocked road sections and restore traffic.
