KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently affecting the country, with the monsoon trough positioned near its average location in the eastern region and closer to Nepal than its average position in the western region.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, are currently experiencing generally cloudy conditions.
The Terai areas of Madhesh, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are partly cloudy. Moderate rainfall is occurring at some places in Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces, as well as at a few places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces and one or two places in Gandaki Province.
The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely at some places in the mountainous and hilly regions.
Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also possible at some places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including Madhesh Province.
The Division has forecast heavy rainfall at some places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces and at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province.
Tonight, the mountainous and hilly areas are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai areas will be partly cloudy. Moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning are likely at some places in the Himalayan and hilly regions.
Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is also possible at some places in the Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and at one or two places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, including Madhesh Province.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces tonight, according to the division.
The Division has urged people to remain alert as heavy rainfall could trigger disasters such as flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion in vulnerable areas.
It has also advised the public to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings, as rainfall could affect daily activities as well as agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transportation and air services.
