KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to affect the entire country, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting heavy rainfall in several provinces.
According to the Department’s Weather Forecasting Division, the monsoon trough currently lies slightly north of its average position near Nepal’s Terai region. Skies remain generally cloudy across the country, with moderate rainfall already occurring in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as isolated areas of Karnali Province.
The Division has forecast generally cloudy conditions throughout the day, with moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning expected in parts of the hilly and Terai regions.
Heavy rainfall is likely in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while isolated heavy showers are also expected in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini.
In the higher mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are also likely. Similar weather conditions are expected in isolated mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The weather pattern is expected to continue tonight, with generally cloudy skies across the country. Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is forecast in several hilly and Terai areas, while heavy rain is likely in parts of Koshi Province and isolated locations in the Terai of Koshi and Lumbini provinces.
The Department has urged the public to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, river flooding, landslides and soil erosion. It said the adverse weather may also disrupt daily life, agriculture, public health, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation. People living in vulnerable areas have been advised to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions.
