KATHMANDU: The influence of a western low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, combined with local and easterly winds, is currently affecting weather conditions across Nepal.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the Himalayan and hilly regions, as well as the Terai areas of Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, are experiencing partly cloudy conditions. The remaining Terai regions are generally clear.
The Department reported moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in some parts of the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as at one or two locations in Karnali Province.
This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the Himalayan region and the hilly areas of Koshi Province. Partly cloudy conditions are likely in the hilly regions of the rest of the country and in the Terai areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. The Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are expected to remain mostly clear.
The Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, in a few places across the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Similar weather conditions may occur at one or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
There is also a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of the Terai region of Koshi Province and isolated areas of Madhes Province.
Light to moderate snowfall is also likely in some high-altitude areas of the Himalayan region. Meanwhile, hot daytime conditions may persist in parts of the Terai districts of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Tonight, Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are expected to witness partly cloudy skies. The Himalayan and hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces will also remain partly cloudy, while the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim are likely to experience mainly fair weather.
The Department has further forecast moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in some mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi Province, while isolated locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may receive light rain and snowfall.
A few places in the Terai region of Koshi Province and one or two locations in Madhes Province may also experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
