KATHMANDU: Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur.
According to officials, the meeting focused on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, labor migration, education, training, and other areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Vice President Yadav said Nepal and Israel have maintained close and friendly relations based on goodwill, mutual understanding, and cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties on June 1, 1960.
He noted that there is significant potential for expanding cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, tourism, and investment, expressing confidence that both countries could benefit through the identification and utilization of such opportunities.
The Vice President thanked the Israeli government for providing employment opportunities to Nepali workers and acknowledged Israel’s continued support through scholarship schemes, vocational training, and capacity-building programs for Nepali students and professionals.
“The support extended by Israel in areas such as education, agriculture, cooperative development, and police and military training is commendable,” he said. He added that cooperation in agricultural technology, research, and capacity development could play an important role in modernizing Nepal’s agriculture sector and strengthening food security.
Vice President Yadav also highlighted the potential for collaboration between universities, research institutions, and innovation systems of the two countries.
Stating that Nepal and Israel continue to cooperate closely in various regional and international forums, including the United Nations, he expressed hope that such constructive engagement would grow stronger in the future.
Referring to recent developments in West Asia, the Vice President said Nepal remains committed to the principles of peaceful coexistence and consistently supports efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and mutual understanding.
During the meeting, Ambassador Bass expressed Israel’s willingness to support Nepal in sectors such as agriculture, beekeeping, and fish farming. He said many Nepalis have gained skills in Israel under the Israeli government’s “Learn and Earn” program and are now contributing in various sectors in Nepal.
The ambassador also said Israel is interested in continuing to provide employment opportunities for Nepali workers in the future while extending technical support in different areas.
