KATHMANDU: The government has utilized nearly 60 percent of its total budget allocation for the current fiscal year 2025/26 by the end of Baisakh (mid-May), according to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO).
FCGO data show that the government spent Rs 1.173 trillion during the first 10 months of the fiscal year. Out of the total annual budget of Rs 1.964 trillion, overall expenditure has reached 59.75 percent so far.
Under the recurrent expenditure category, the government has spent Rs 814.655 billion, which accounts for 68.98 percent of the allocated Rs 1.180 trillion by mid-May.
Capital expenditure, however, remains relatively low. Of the Rs 407.88 billion allocated for development spending, only Rs 113.849 billion, or 27.91 percent, has been utilized so far.
In terms of financial management expenditure, the government has spent 65.30 percent of the allocated budget. A total of Rs 375.24 billion was earmarked under this heading for the current fiscal year, of which Rs 245.15 billion has already been used.
Meanwhile, government revenue collection has reached only around 66 percent of the annual target. The government had set a goal of collecting Rs 1.533 trillion in total revenue during the current fiscal year, but only Rs 1.125 trillion has been collected by mid-May.
Specifically, against a target of raising Rs 1.48 trillion in revenue, the government has managed to collect Rs 988 billion over the past 10 months, equivalent to 66.69 percent of the annual target.
The government had also expected to receive Rs 53.446 billion in foreign aid during the current fiscal year. According to the FCGO, only Rs 17.787 billion, or 33.28 percent of the target, has been received so far.
