Nepal spends nearly 60 percent of annual budget in ten months, capital expenditure lags at 28 percent



KATHMANDU: The government has spent nearly 60 percent of its total budget in the first ten months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, while capital expenditure continues to remain significantly low, according to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO).

By the end of Baisakh (May 14), total government expenditure reached Rs 1.173 trillion out of the annual allocation of Rs 1.964 trillion, accounting for 59.75 percent of the total budget.

According to the FCGO, recurrent expenditure under the current fiscal year stood at 68.98 percent of the allocated Rs 1.180 trillion, amounting to Rs 814.65 billion so far.

However, capital expenditure remained weak, with only 27.91 percent of the allocated Rs 407.88 billion spent, totaling Rs 113.84 billion.

Under financial management, the government has spent 65.30 percent of the allocated budget so far.

The government had set a target of collecting Rs 1.533 trillion in total revenue for the fiscal year. So far, it has collected Rs 1.012 trillion, equivalent to 66 percent of the annual target.

Tax revenue collection, targeted at Rs 1.48 trillion, has reached 66.69 percent, amounting to Rs 988.05 billion over the past ten months.

Meanwhile, foreign aid inflow remains weak. Out of the target of Rs 53.44 billion, only 33.28 percent—Rs 17.78 billion—has been received so far, the FCGO stated.
