KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has directed fertilizer importers and dealers to ensure that chemical fertilizers sold in the market meet the specifications outlined in the Chemical Fertilizer Control Order.
The ministry has also urged traders not to import, mix or distribute chemical fertilizers using misleading labels or false information in violation of existing regulations.
Agricultural economist Mahananda Joshi said traders involved in black marketing of subsidized fertilizers provided by the government would face action in accordance with prevailing laws.
According to Joshi, only fertilizers that meet the prescribed standards related to nutrient composition, minimum and maximum nutrient content, and physical and chemical quality are allowed for import and distribution.
The ministry has requested farmers to purchase fertilizers only from reliable sources, including sales offices and depots operated by Agriculture Inputs Company Limited and Salt Trading Corporation Limited, or from registered importers and dealers.
It has also urged farmers to verify the price, source and quality of chemical fertilizers available in the market and seek necessary information from sellers before making purchases.
