Nepali citizen Amrit Jha released from Iranian custody

KATHMANDU: Nepali national Amrit Jha, who had been under the control of authorities in Iran, has been released.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal confirmed on Wednesday that Jha has been freed.

According to the ministry, official information regarding his release has already been received, and the necessary diplomatic and administrative procedures will now move forward.

The government has also informed Jha’s family about his release through official channels. Family sources said they had just received the news confirming that he had been freed.

Jha had travelled to Iran to transport fuel before tensions escalated between Israel, United States, and Iran. While returning after delivering oil, he was detained by Iranian security personnel.

Jha had gone to Dubai for foreign employment around two years ago and had been working as a captain on a vessel operated by Black Sea Marine LLC.
