Key Cabinet decisions made today



KATHMANDU: The government has made public the key decisions taken by the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology as well as Youth and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, announced the decisions during a press conference.

According to Minister Pokharel, the Cabinet made several important decisions on contemporary issues. Notably, the meeting decided to form a three-member committee under the security mechanism to implement the report related to the recently discussed Gen Z movement.

The committee will study, analyze and facilitate the implementation process of issues related to the movement.

The Cabinet also decided to form a commission to investigate the property details of employees holding high-ranking positions and political office bearers since the political change of 2062/63 BS. The decision has been viewed as an important step towards good governance, transparency and accountability. The commission is expected to review the asset details of individuals who held public office during the specified period and submit a report to the government.

Cabinet decisions

  • To receive a grant assistance of one million Swiss francs from the Government of Switzerland for the fund related to the investigation of enforced disappearances and the Truth and Reconciliation process.
  • To designate deputy director generals, directors and section officers of the Inland Revenue Department, as well as officials working in large and medium taxpayer offices and Inland Revenue Offices, as excise officers responsible for designated jurisdictions.
  • To approve the Financial Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (Third Amendment) Regulations, 2082.
  • To table in the House of Representatives the notification regarding the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty in criminal matters signed between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India on Falgun 5, 2082 BS.
  • To approve the National Standards for Organization and Management Survey, 2082.
  • To form an Asset Investigation Commission to collect, verify and investigate the asset details of major political office holders and senior officials who have held public office from 2062/63 BS to 2082/83 BS. The commission will be led by former Supreme Court justice Rajendra Kumar Bhandari, with members including former justices Purushottam Parajuli and Chandiraj Dhakal, former Armed Police Force deputy inspector general Ganesh KC, and chartered accountant Prakash Lamsal.
  • To form a committee to study and recommend measures regarding the implementation of the report submitted by the investigation commission formed to probe the incidents that occurred on Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082 BS. The committee will be coordinated by former High Court judge Premraj Karki, with members including former Armed Police Force Additional Inspector General Subodh Adhikari and former Nepal Police Additional Inspector General Tek Prasad Rai.
