Stray dog from Chitwan finds forever home in the US

CHITWAN: A stray dog that once startled an American mother and daughter in Bharatpur has now found a permanent home in the United States.

What began as a brief encounter at Hotel Global in Chitwan turned into a heartfelt bond, prompting the visitors to go to great lengths to bring the dog safely to America.

A few months ago, while staying at the hotel, a stray dog approached the visitors. Mistaking it for a threat, a security guard chased the dog, accidentally injuring it. Distressed by the incident, the mother and daughter were moved to tears and asked the guard to find and return the dog.

The guard located the dog and brought it back to them. The visitors quickly grew fond of the animal, cuddling and caring for it, and eventually decided to take it home with them to the United States.

Binod Dhakal, who assisted the guests during their stay, confirmed that the dog arrived in America this week. He said 50-year-old Chanda Renegregor and her 16-year-old daughter Madison personally arranged the dog’s relocation.

Dhakal said, “I sent the dog to America after the mother and daughter, who had been upset when it was hurt, expressed their wish to take it with them. I was thrilled to hear it arrived safely last Sunday.”

The visitors had come to Chitwan in June for a two-week stay. According to Dhakal, the dog was cared for under veterinary supervision, received a full health check, and was then sent to Colorado, USA, via Qatar Airways with a fit-to-fly permit and a pet passport.

The mother and daughter reportedly spent over $10,000 to ensure the dog’s safe journey. “Their love for animals is remarkable. I was relieved to see news, photos, and videos of the dog after its two-day quarantine in America and being allowed outdoors following health checks,” Dhakal added.
