4,108 Bhotekoshi flood-hit households receive Rs 45,000 each in relief

KATHMANDU: The government has distributed cash assistance of Rs 45,000 each to 4,108 households directly affected by the Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.

The assistance was provided by development partner World Food Programme (WFP) and distributed through a one-door system to prevent duplication, according to the government.

The affected families were identified in coordination with local governments.

Households in 11 local units, including five in Rasuwa, four in Nuwakot and two in Dhading, have received the assistance.

The government plans to distribute the funds to around 1,400 additional households within three days, once their data verification is completed.

A joint meeting of the monsoon response command posts of the three districts and the central government, held on October 9, decided to streamline the identification of disaster-affected households, verification of beneficiary details and early recovery efforts.

As the Red Cross and other development partners have also expressed interest in providing cash assistance, the government has directed local governments and concerned agencies to ensure that support is distributed in accordance with the Disaster-Sensitive Social Protection and Relief Distribution Standards, 2024, without duplication or leaving any affected household out.

The government said efforts to accelerate the long-term rehabilitation and resettlement of flood-affected communities were also underway.
