KATHMANDU: Families of Gen-Z martyrs have objected to remarks made by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) whip Krantishikha Dhital regarding a programme organised to mark the first memorial day of the Gen-Z martyrs.
The Gen-Z Martyrs Family Welfare Society and Injured Gen-Z Nepal held a press conference and staged a demonstration outside the southern gate of Singha Durbar on Monday, accusing Dhital of making remarks that disrespected the first memorial day programme of the Gen-Z martyrs.
The martyr families and injured survivors accused Dhital of making a publicly inappropriate statement that trivialised their sacrifices and suffering. They demanded that Dhital publicly apologise for her remarks.
Thakurnath Gautam, secretary of the Gen-Z Martyrs Family Welfare Society, said no one had the right to insult the martyr families after failing to provide them with any form of support or assistance.
He said portraying the first memorial day programme as a concert and linking it with entertainment had hurt the sentiments of the people and victims, particularly when such remarks came from individuals holding political responsibilities.
The families and injured survivors have demanded that the RSP seriously review Dhital’s remarks and make its institutional position public.
They also called on the RSP to take necessary action against statements that hurt the Gen-Z martyr families and injured community, and urged that the contributions of the martyrs and injured survivors be treated as a matter of national honour rather than being used for partisan political interests.
