POKHARA: A massive flood in the Modikhola River along the Kaski-Parbat border late Thursday night washed away two suspension bridges and left three people trapped inside the premises of the Annapurna Mata Temple.
The flood swept away the bridge connecting Annapurna Rural Municipality-5 and 6 near Birethanti in Kaski. The lower portion of the temple was also damaged by the floodwaters.
A priest and two devotees remain stranded within the temple compound as the flood cut off access to the area. A special rescue team from Armed Police Force Nepal No. 24 Kalika Battalion, Kaski, has been deployed for the operation.
According to the Armed Police Force, a trained rescue team comprising four rope-rescue personnel and three divers reached the site during the night with the necessary disaster-response equipment.
DSP Shailendra Thapa said rescue teams have been making continuous efforts since daylight to safely evacuate the trapped individuals.
